Japanese Martial Arts Interview Series Vol.1: Dan Pearson and Richard Strausbaugh

 ■杖道、意外に国際的

このインタビューは、東大講義「杖道とアート」のために、2011年11月5日、鹿島で収録された約5分の記録である。

ダン・ピアソン（首都圏杖道会）は 、アメリカ合衆国下院・科学技術委員会に勤務。
そしてリッチー・フライマン（五大湖杖道会）は、マルケット大学で国際政治を講ずる。なんでも日本のヤクザやマフィアまで研究対象のようだ。
そんな忙しい日日の中で、現地に稽古場を開き、年数回来日してみっちり稽古に汗を流す。
ともに15年以上神道夢想流杖道を修行する、この道の尊敬すべき先輩たちでもある。そんな彼らに、わたしから次のような質問をしてみた。

・杖道は、今の時代に、このままの形で、世の中になんらかの影響を及ぼすだろうか？貢献出来ますか？
・日常的な杖道の効用は？
・杖道は、形という情報をもったアートだと思ってる。杖道が次代の新たなアートを生むチャンスになるかもしれない、この考えどうだろ？

Jodo is a school of Japanese martial art with Kata, formation of various movements.
This is an experiment for new artistic expressions based on Jodo, which has 400 long years of history.
I interviewed　Daniel Pearson(The Capital Area Jodokai)　,　Richard Friman(Godaiko Jodokai) for
Jodo and Art 2011＠Special Lectures in Cultural and Human Information Studies I of The University of Tokyo.
I asked them.
Do you believe Jodo can contribute to this modern world as is?
How does it influence your daily life?
For me, I do believe Jodo is an art on its own with“Kata”, and that Jodo can be applied to other forms of artistic expressions.
Do you agree?  Any examples?
